Etsy image requirements (2026)
What Etsy actually enforces on listing photos: dimensions, file size, and the differences from strict-background marketplaces.
The rules, in one table
The 2000px zoom threshold
Etsy recommends at least 2000px on the shortest side so buyers can zoom without the image falling apart, and zooming is how handmade and vintage buyers inspect texture and detail. Photos below the threshold do not take the listing down, they just ship without a working zoom. Photolint lints against the 2000px figure and, for smaller sources, runs the ×4 upscale and re-measures the result before it ships.
Styled backgrounds are allowed; consistent ones sell
Unlike Amazon, Etsy has no pure-white mandate: styled, lifestyle and textured backgrounds are fine and often perform better for handmade goods. The trap is inconsistency. A shop grid where framing, warmth and brightness drift between photos reads as careless, which is why the lint report includes batch consistency checks across the whole shoot instead of only judging photos one by one.
The file-size cap and format
Etsy caps listing images at 1MB, and large camera exports exceed that routinely. Photolint outputs JPEG and compresses under the cap automatically, stepping quality down only as far as the cap requires, so you never round-trip through a separate compressor tool.
