Walmart image requirements (2026)

Walmart publishes its image requirements as a table of numbers, including the one most guides get wrong: the background is specified as RGB values, not as a look.

Every rule below was verified against Walmart’s own documentation on Sep 1, 2026; source linked in the sidebar. The app lints against this exact data.

The rules, in one table

RuleWhat Walmart requiresWhat Photolint does
min-resolution Longest side at least 1,500 px; 2,200 px recommended WILL FIX Real-ESRGAN ×4 upscale
main-white-bg MAIN image background must be pure white, RGB (255, 255, 255) WILL FIX AI mask + verified whitening
format JPEG output; sRGB; under 5.0 MB WILL FIX convert + compress under cap
naming File naming: {sku}-{view}-{n} WILL FIX automatic rename

Seamless white is a number: 255/255/255

Walmart specifies the main image background as seamless white at RGB 255/255/255, which is a measurement rather than an impression. A backdrop that photographs as very light grey is still not white, and no amount of good lighting makes it so. Photolint measures the background the same way, replaces it with a verified pure white composite when the subject mask is confident, and marks the output for your eyes when it cannot verify the fix.

2200 is the specification, 1500 is the floor for zoom

The requirements table gives 2200 by 2200 pixels as the pixel dimensions and 1500 by 1500 as the minimum for zoom, so those are two different promises: one is the size Walmart asks for, the other is the point below which the zoom feature has nothing to work with. Photolint lints against 1500 as the hard floor and 2200 as the target, upscaling the sources that fall short and re-measuring the result.

Square, and under 5MB

Walmart asks for a 1:1 square aspect ratio and a file of 5MB or less, in JPEG, PNG or BMP; animated GIFs are not accepted. A photo shot in portrait does not fail on resolution, it fails on shape, and cropping it later without a plan is how products end up touching the frame. Photolint pads to square around the measured subject box rather than cutting into it, then compresses in quality steps until the file sits under the cap.
